Loyal artist-users of the Zynga app Art With Friends (AWF) recently were dismayed to receive in-game notices that their game would end effective April 1, 2015. Their global artist community now is banding together in a massive effort, Save Art With Friends Initiative, to save the game they love.
Players explain that AWF is the only multi-platform game enabling Android and iOS users to play together. It is one of the few art apps on either platform offering social contacts/chats within the game, itself. Players also are passionate about the app’s ability to save and display stroke-by-stroke creations. They describe this feature as the basis of the app’s ability to improve their artistic skills. Finally, AWF is entirely user-friendly.
The AWF community is brainstorming to find ways to help make the app more profitable for Zynga or for another purchaser. Player chats and threads suggest additional revenue streams and ideas to increase the number of players, worldwide. Threads often describe how this app has great personal meaning and positive effects. Players actually travel across states and internationally to meet playing partners in real life.
Clearly, AWF is more to this community than a routine drawing app. They have created a variety of sites to promote their cause and have posted a Save Art With Friends petition on Change.com. These links appear, below. Players request that all artists and gamers “like” and comment on sites. Most important, they ask others to sign their petition and help them save the app they love.
